I'm available for private Finnish lessons in Helsinki and online.

Update 22.5.2023: My teaching calendar is full at the moment, but check out this list of wonderful professional Finnish teachers compiled by Hanna on Random Finnish Lesson. If you're alright with not starting lessons straight away, send me a message and I'll add you to my waiting list!

Send me a message to set up a free first lesson with me or scroll down to learn more! You can also email me directly at mari@askafinnishteacher.com or send me a private message on Facebook Messenger (clicking the orange text will take you directly to the right place).

How does it work?

My private lessons are very flexible and always tailored according to my students' needs. The way it works is we meet up for a first 45 minute lesson where I evaluate your skills and we talk about your goals and preferences. After the lesson, I make you a written offer via email.  If you decide to start taking lessons with me,  I usually reserve you a regular spot in my calendar: for some students it's weekly lessons or three times a month, sometimes it's once a month - it all depends on you!

How much does it cost?

First lessons are truly free and don't require any further commitment.

To give you an idea of my prices, single lessons with me are 98 € / 45 minutes, including VAT 24 %. However, everything can be customized according to your needs, and with many students we start from their monthly budget and work from there.

The price of the lessons depends on what is included: some students only require 15 minutes of my time now and then, others prefer to have a detailed study plan for each day of the week with daily check-ins and constant feedback on customized assignments.

What I typically suggest is something in between: regular lessons, long term goals so we have a clear direction, short term goals for a rewarding process towards the long term goals, a personal study plan for the week or the month for you to follow at your own pace and and some availability between lessons.

What is the first lesson like?

Our first lesson together will be about getting to know each other and for you to get an idea of my teaching style. We'll chat together in Finnish for at least a little while to see what your current skills are like, and I'll usually teach you something new as well. Then I'll ask you more about your goals and how much time you're able to put towards your studies every week, and you can of course ask me any questions that you might have at that point.

Should I do some revision before the first lesson?

Only if you want to! Revision is always a good idea, but we have plenty of time for that later on. Your current level is just fine as it is.
